In an effort to provide advanced training, the Master Gardener Specialist – Oak Wilt training was created as a hands-on, intensive training that will empower Master Gardeners with knowledge and skills required to effectively support and multiply Texas Cooperative Extension efforts in educational programs. Master Gardeners who fulfill specified training and volunteer requirements will be recognized as a Master Gardener Specialist in the specific field of Oak Wilt.

Hood County Extension is offering a Master Gardener Rainwater Specialist Training in Hood County on July 17 and 18, 2007. The training will take place at the Texas Forest Service Building, Texas Forest Service, 450 Howard Clemmons Drive. Granbury, Texas. This hands-on training will include the installation of a collection system and drip irrigation at an Extension/Master Gardener demonstration site. Every trainee will make a rain barrel to take home for themselves or to use as a demonstration. Each trainee will receive a shirt, power point and other materials to help them install a rainwater harvesting system demonstration in their counties and teach others about rainwater harvesting.

Montgomery County Extension is offering a Master Gardener Rainwater Specialist Training in Conroe, Texas on September 13-14, 2007. This hands-on training will include the tours of the rainwater harvesting systems at an Extension/Master Gardener demonstration site and construction of a concrete bird bath. Every trainee will make a rain barrel to take home for themselves or to use as a demonstration. Each trainee will receive a shirt, power point and other materials to help them install a rainwater harvesting system demonstration in their counties and teach others about rainwater harvesting. A copy of the tentative schedule is attached with the registration form with some information on hotels and sights to see.
Only 30 participant spots are available for this training, so please submit your registration forms as soon as possible. Registration is on a first come/first serve basis and limited to 2 Master Gardeners from each county. Payment and forms must be in our office by August 3, 2007. Master Gardener Rainwater Harvesting Specialists will be expected to set up a rainwater harvesting demonstration and trainings in their counties for other Master Gardeners and for the public to fulfill their volunteer requirement.

The Master Gardener Specialist training in Entomology was started in 2003. In addition to a refresher course in entomology, the class offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience making field collections of insects, collecting nocturnal insects using black lights, preserving and curating arthropod samples, and insect photography. Sessions also deal with insect identification, ecology, and management.
Participants are expected to take their insect knowledge and put it to good use with a project in their home county. Taught by an enthusiastic team of Extension Specialists and county extension entomologists.

Sep 26-27-28 EarthKind™ - Midland/Odessa, TX
Permian Basin Master Gardeners (Ector/Midland Counties) have scheduled a national Earth-Kind Specialist training for September 26 -27-28, 2007. This will be held again at the University of Texas - Permian Basin Center for Energy and Economic Diversity located between the cities of Midland and Odessa.

October 3-5, 2007 Propagation Specialist Training - Abilene, TX

- Registration fee of $150.00 includes lecture, hands-on instruction sessions, resource CD and copies of lecture materials; misc. propagation equipment; denim shirt; transportation for field trips; 2 dinners; 1 lunch; and, snacks
- The first 40 paid registrations will receive a Fiskars® hand pruner, pruning knife and other equipment to help you with your propagation work and trainings.
- Transportation and lodging is on your own. See list of accommodations on additional page.
- Course is limited to the first 50 applicants.
- Each county Master Gardener program is limited to 2 attendees. However, should space allow after the deadline, a county may ask to register additional attendees. This must be coordinated with the Taylor County Extension Agent.
- Return your completed registration form with payment and forward to the address below.
