Five Year Plan for Texas Master Gardeners

These ideas are only a starting point. The purpose of these ideas is to get our Master Gardener Associations involved and help us better our organization.   View Five Year Plan

This is an opportunity for your Association to step up and take the lead and chair one of these ideas. If your county would like to sponsor one of these projects or others, contact: Garey Wylie at gareywylie@charter.net

The Johnson County Master Gardener Association will take the lead and chair the EarthKind™ Rose project.

In addition, if there are anymore ideas let us know. I know these are big ideas but we live in TEXAS.

Thanks Garey Wylie, 1st Vice President, TMGA

Wood County Master Gardeners - A National EarthKind Rose Trial Garden in Mineola, Texas was dedicated May 19th by the Wood County MGs. Mineola Mayor Pete Smith, a 2007 MG graduate, officiated. The location of the garden near the Amtrack train depot was the site of old Union Pacific warehouses which had been torn down recently. Last fall the Wood County Master Gardeners with assistance from many in the community planted all 30 rose cultivars currently being tested. The roses were planted in three randomized blocks for a total of 90 plants. Following EarthKind pincipals the roses were planted in well cultivated soil, incorporating compost into the planting area and mulching the plants with wood chips. The trial will last three years with evaluations to be done monthly starting next spring. At the conclusion of the trial Clint Perkins, the Wood County Ag Extension agent, has suggested that the best plants be donated to the local schools for a demonstration EarthKind Rose Garden.
