The Plein Air, held by the Somervell History Foundation on the grounds of the historic Barnard’s Mill and Museum complex in Glen Rose, will feature area artists creating original works of art. Noon Zilker Botanical Garden 2220 Barton Springs Rd. Austin Always dreamed of a little pond in your yard? Learn how you can personally make your dream come true. Be trained with visuals on Small Pond Construction. Determine the supplies and equipment needed for the job. Find out which plants do well and the growing requirements. Which fish is ideal for the small pond? Hear about the care essentials to grow healthy fish. Other things you need to know includes instruction on general pond maintenance. Learn to enhance the night time ascetics of the pond with pond lighting. Understand methods to help prevent unwanted guest: raccoons, birds, etc. Bring samples of diseased, bug eaten, sick plants to the Plant Clinic. Experts will diagnose the problem and offer possible remedies. Austin Parks Department charges a $3. fee for parking. The seminar is sponsored by the Travis County Master Gardener Association. On Saturday, June 7, 2008, Menard County Extension Agent, Billy Kniffen, will present the seminar “Rainwater Harvest”. In this half-day session you will learn, tips, techniques and technology to use at your home or business enabling you to harvest rainwater and store it for future use. Admission is free. The program will be from 9:00 A.M. – Noon at the Old Rockport Elementary School, 619 N. Live Oak, Rockport, TX. June 7, 2008 - Oak Wilt Training - Austin
Travis County Master Gardeners and Texas Forest Service
If you have ever been interested in learning how to identify oak wilt, now is your opportunity! The Travis County Master Gardeners will be hosing a 1-day Oak Wilt Identification class taught by the Texas Forest Service on Sat, June 7th from 8:30 am - 4 pm at the Extension office at 1600 B Smith Road, Austin. You are invited to attend. Deadline for registration is Wed, June 4th. Registration is $20 which includes course materials, snacks and lunch. The class will end with a field trip to a location in Austin where oak wilt is prevalent. The agenda is attached. This is not a specialist training. June 9 2008 - Rainwater Harvesting - Glen Rose, Tx.
Somervell County Master Gardeners Association 6:30 p.m. Somervell County Citizens Center Open to the Public Greg Marsh, a certified rainwater harvesting specialist, will present a class with a Power Point/program and we will also have a "construct your own rainwater barrel" activity. Each participant will put together and take home his/her own rain barrel. As this does involve material costs, there will be a class fee of $20. RSVP and $20.00 fee are due by June 2. Calls should be directed to the Somervell County Extension Office at 254-897-2809. The fee or checks can be mailed to Somervell County Extension Office, P.O. Box 895, Glen Rose, Tx. 76043-0895.
The SCMGA will purchase all parts necessary for constructing 20 gallon trash can rain barrels with the necessary holes pre drilled to facilitate the assembly activity. "LUNCH AND LEARN WITH THE MASTERS" a monthly seminar held on the second Monday of each month. Interested persons who attend are invited to bring their own lunch and drink, as these will not be provided. The sessions will be free at the Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center, 2805 N. Navarro St., at noon, for an hour of gardening information.
