HIDDEN GARDENS TOUR – $10 – tour locations in Aransas and San Patricio Counties On Saturday, May 3, 2008, go beyond the garden gate to enjoy 11 beautiful gardens on this year’s Hidden Gardens Tour. This delightful garden self-tour is from 9:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M. Tickets are $10 and are available in Aransas County at Green Acres Demonstration Gardens. Green Acres is co-located with Texas AgriLife Extension Service – Aransas County Office at 611 E. Mimosa, Rockport, Texas. In San Patricio County, tickets may be purchased at Greens ‘N Things, 801 Moore Ave., Portland, Texas.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR for May 3, 9am to 2pm, for the Annual Tour of Gardens hosted by the Rockwall County Master Gardener Assoc. Seven beautiful gardens to inspire ideas for your own landscape or just to enjoy pleasurable surroundings. This years Tour features gardens in historic old Rockwall and abutting the shore of the lake. There are gardens in dense shade and full sun, plus a large variety of native Texas plants and beautiful perennials well adapted to our area. The Master Gardeners own experimental/teaching Discovery Garden has several new additions and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions and present demonstrations. SPEAKER: Dr. Michael P. Masser, Professor and Extension Fisheries
This educational program is designed to help pond owners learn more about aquatic plants that grow in Texas waters. Dr. Masser will discuss the most common and undesirable aquatic plants that are detrimental to pond management and fishing. If you have pond weeds that you need identified be sure to bring them. In addition, he will also discuss ways that you can manage your pond for both recreation and sport.

Somervell County Master Gardeners Association 6:30 p.m. Somervell County Citizens Center Free and Open to the Public Native plant expert Evaline Woodrey will tell us how to use native and adapted plants in our landscape. She has been a plant enthusiast for many years as well as a member of the Native Plant Society of Texas and the Native Prairie Association of Texas. She has created native garden spaces for the public and also her own private wildlife habitat using native plants and xeriscape techniques. The Master Gardeners will also be selling native and adapted plants.
